I'm a recovering mathematician. It's kind of like being an alcoholic: you're never completely cured, but sometimes you have the strength to resist...

Anyway, that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

In the boring who-am-I stuff, I studied maths at Oxford University in the mid-90's and spent much of my geek time with the Invariants Society. After deciding that I didn't want to do maths for a living, I went on to pursue a much more useful degree...in Philosopy. Right. So I recently finished up my Ph.D. in philosophy at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign; I'm now teaching as a faculty member!

In my spare time (what spare time?) I read, play video games, and such. I'm in the SCA (and the Great Dark Horde) where I spend most of my time dancing; I teach Renaissance dancing in my local group. I'm also involved in science fiction fandom, particularly in filk. I play the guitar and write songs; I have one CD out, "Not Everybody Dies," and a second, "Hello, Stranger," should be out soon. I also like to cook, but my kitchen is the size of a postage stamp so I don't do that too often lately.

Oh yeah, I spend a lot of time grading too.
